What do you think is the most common command given to God’s people in Scripture? Be holy? Love your neighbor? Make yourself pure? You might be surprised to find out that it is actually, “Do not be afraid!” The reason is because fear is one of the most common things that we experience in this life. Fear of being left out, fear of failure, fear of getting hurt, fear of the future, fear of the unknown (and countless others), are all real things that we experience in this life. However, in the midst of these fears God Himself meets us and speaks to us. He tells us that He loves us like a Father loves His children. He tells us that because of what Jesus has done for us, we are called His sons and daughters. He tells us that the His Spirit lives inside of us. He tells us that we do not have to be afraid because He is with us, He cares for us, and He loves us. He tells us that His perfect love casts out fear. This summer the preaching of God's word will focus on this very practical promise of God and invite us all to find great encouragement and hope as we wrestle with and offer up our fears to Him.
