YLT Frequently Asked Questions

Youth Leader Training FAQ

Who can attend YLT?
Anyone with a passion and heart for training and equipping youth - pastors, youth leaders/directors, volunteers, interns, or parents are welcome to attend. Furthermore, you can be a seasoned youth ministry veteran or an intern, volunteer, pastor or parent that is just starting out and otherwise wants to learn about how to better minister to teenagers. All are welcome to come and learn and be trained in biblical theology and a philosophy of ministry for reaching youth for Christ and equipping them to serve.

When & Where does YLT take place?
will meet January 27-31, 2020 at the Joe C. Davis YMCA Outdoor Center in Nashville, TN.
will meet March 2-6, 2020 at Keystone Church in Paradise, PA.  Lodging at Intercourse Village Inn & Suites, Intercourse, PA

What is a typical day like?
A typical day is spent under incredible teaching in both a classroom and large group setting. There is also time each day for reflection, conversation, worship and prayer…all in a relational context of community among other youth leaders. Official schedule details will be published by Dec. 1. See a sample schedule HERE.

Is there really a half-day set aside for prayer groups?
Yes. YLT is more than an event to receive information. We desire that youth workers experience renewal in their lives. Prayer is not only vital for our life with God; it is also a powerful means to connect with others who are laboring “alongside” you in youth ministry. This has continually been one of the most enriching and rewarding aspects of YLT. Year after year leaders ask for more time with their prayer groups!

The schedule says we eat dinner out three nights. Why?
Eating out gives us greater opportunity for relaxation, reflection, fellowship, and conversation. It's a great time to get to know other youth leaders in a relaxed setting.

Is there married housing if I want to attend with my spouse?
Yes, we welcome couples to attend YLT together! Spouses must register separately.  YLT NASHVILLE NOTE: there is limited onsite space for married housing at the YMCA. Rooms are reserved and secured with a deposit on a first come first served basis so register early! Once the onsite married housing is full, couples may choose to stay in the male/female cabins or coordinate with RYM Director of Training to arrange for offsite lodging.

Can I request to stay in a cabin/room with someone I know?
Yes, you may make that request on the registration form and we will do our best to accommodate you.

What is the nearest airport to each YLT location?
YLT NASHVILLE – Nashville International Airport (BNA) is less than 8 miles away from the Joe C. Davis YMCA Outdoor Center. Nearly all major airlines service the Nashville airport.
YLT NORTHEAST – The closest airport is Harrisburg International Airport (MDT), which is roughly 45 minutes away. Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is a 75-90 minute drive and Baltimore (BWI) is 1.5-2 hours away.

Do I need a to rent a car if I fly?
While you are welcome to rent a car, you do have other options to get from the airport to YLT. You may contact Michael Hall with your flight information and he will help arrange rides for folks arriving at similar times. On the nights where everyone eats dinner out, it is easy to jump in with a group that has room in their vehicle.
The NASHVILLE airport is roughly 8 miles from the Joe C. Davis YMCA so there are more options to help with transportation.  The NORTHEAST airports, with the exception of Harrisburg, PA, are farther away and can be more difficult to help arrange transport.  Please contact Michael and he'll do all he can to help.

What are the sleeping accommodations?
YLT NASHVILLE: Separate male/female housing is in well-appointed cabins with bunk beds.  Usually around 12 people per cabin (their cabins have room for 20+). Limited married housing is in either hotel style rooms or a couple of the cabins.
YLT NORTHEAST: Rooms at the Village Inn are shared by 2 or 3 participants.  Every participant will have their own queen-sized bed.

Do I need to bring linens? Pillow? Towels?
YLT NASHVILLE: (YES) Except for the few married housing rooms, the YMCA does NOT provide linens, pillows, or towels. Bunks are single beds so you may bring linens or a sleeping bag.
YLT NORTHEAST: (NO) Our lodging in the very comfortable Intercourse Village Inn will provide sheets, towels, etc.

I have additional questions about YLT. Who can I contact?
Michael Hall, the RYM Director of Training would be happy to help with any questions related to YLT. Please contact him directly HERE.
